ABOUT SVARA

C

“Svara refers to the Sanskrit term for each note of the musical scale. Each Svara contributes to making the scale whole.

Our philosphy at Svara Music Studio stems from this very thought; music being an integral part of life, instrumental in making it complete.

We create all-rounded musicians by providing quality music education with utmost sincerity and committment to the musical growth of our students.”

Priyal Shah

Founder and Director

Born and raised in a musical family in Mumbai, India, Priyal has grown up learning Indian and Western classical musical forms on the piano.  She comes from a lineage of musicians; her father Mr. Viju Shah and late grandfather Mr. Kalyanji Shah (of Kalyanji-Anandji fame) both being prominent and award winning composers in Bollywood.

In Bombay, she studied piano with Shanti Seldon, and Indian music with her grandfather. Her love for music took her to the United States, where she pursued her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Furman University of Greenville, SC, under Dr. Ruby Morgan, and a Master’s degrees in Classical Piano Performance from New York University under Dr. Deirdre O’Donohue.

Priyal has taught all genres of music on the piano at all levels. While at New York University, she held the position of Adjunct Piano Faculty, teaching private and group piano classes to undergraduates. She also served as piano and music theory faculty at Mumbai’s True School of Music. Having taught at multiple private music schools in New York City,  Mumbai, India, and Atlanta, GA, Priyal understands the value and importance of music education in today’s age.

Her teaching philosophy is student centric, firmly believing that the secret behind getting the best out of a student is by adopting a teaching method that caters to the student’s needs and abilities. Apart from teaching piano, she is an active performer in the Atlanta metro area, collaborating with other musicians and composers.
